Lips can age more quickly than other areas of the Face
The skin on and around the lips is very thin, making this area of the face more susceptible to early signs of aging than other facial areas. Common signs of aging around the lips include:
- Thinning of the lips
- Vertical lines (smoker’s lines) around the lips
- A change in the shape of the lips
- “Smile” lines in the corners of the lips
Several factors go into creating a pair of lips that are considered attractive. Perhaps most importantly, the left and right sides of the lips should be symmetrical for balance and appeal. The divot in the top lip, known as the cupid’s bow, should be well-defined and symmetrical, centered below the nose. Fullness in the body of the lips is also important in a youthful appearance and the fullness should taper off at the corners of the mouth. For the best results, the lower lip should be slightly fuller than the upper lip, protruding slightly more when viewed from the side. To avoid the appearance of overly large or small lips, a line drawn straight up from the corners of the mouth should hit the eye around mid-pupil.
