RF Microneedling is a minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure that reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and scars while tightening and rejuvenating your skin. It combines two of the most effective cosmetic procedures, microneedling and radiofrequency treatment, to address the most common skin concerns, including skin laxity, loss of facial volume, wrinkles, textural irregularities, and fine lines. If you’re looking for rejuvenated, glowing and youthful skin without a surgery or recovery downtime, contact Laser Clinique to discuss your RF Microneedling treatment options.
What is RF Microneedling?
RF Microneedling is a powerful combination of two skin rejuvenation procedures—microneedling and radiofrequency energy treatment. As with all microneedling, it involves the use of ultrafine needles to create controlled micro-injuries on the skin’s surface to activate your body’s natural healing and collagen and elastin production capabilities.
However, in this particular variation of the microneedling treatment, the needles puncture the skin’s surface while simultaneously delivering radiofrequency energy to tighten the skin. Together, the two processes help you achieve smooth, taut, and youthful skin. Microneedling can also be combined with PRP (platelet-rich plasmas), growth factors, and other skincare components to boost the results.

The RF Microneedling Procedure
During RF Microneedling, the skin is cleansed and a topical anesthetic cream is applied for optimal comfort. Once the anesthetic has been applied, the microneedling device is gently passed over treatment areas. As the device passes over the skin, it safely creates numerous micro-punctures (extremely thin, sterile, and surgical-grade needles are used), as the additional radiofrequency technology generates and delivers nourishing thermal (heat) energy deep within the skin.
The penetration of microneedles stimulates the body’s natural process of healing and catalyzes the release of growth factors that produce new skin cells. Meanwhile, the radiofrequency energy heats the dermis to encourage collagen production and tissue tightening, leading to smoother and tighter skin. The procedure breaks down scar tissue and clears up common skin concerns, while simultaneously activating your body’s healing response. As the epidermis isn’t damaged, recovery is fast.
RF Microneedling Treatment Recovery
You may experience some dryness and redness after an RF Microneedling treatment. These will be at their worst for the first two days post op, but will gradually dissipate. You can return to work and most social activities in a day, but should expect to continue shedding dried and dead skin for 2 to 7 days. Results are very long-lasting, but you’ll likely see additional benefits from a maintenance treatment. The ideal treatment schedule for RF Microneedling is once monthly, although this isn’t required to see considerable improvements.
Am I a candidate for RF Microneedling?
RF Microneedling is a safe skin rejuvenation technique suitable for people of all ages, skin tones and skin types. Unlike many other skin rejuvenation techniques, the procedure is equally suitable for light and dark skin tones. You should consider RF Microneedling if you have minor skin irregularities or early signs of aging, such as skin laxity, scarring, textural irregularities, wrinkles and fine lines.
RF Microneedling may not be suitable for you right now if:
- You’ve had Accutane in the past six months
- You currently have open wounds in the treatment area
- You’re suffering from a skin infection
- You’ve had radiation therapy within the year prior
- You’re currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have a history of keloid scars
