Do I need BOTOX?
If you spend a lot of time concentrating, frowning, or squinting, then you have probably started to notice wrinkle lines in between your eyebrows. As you perform these activities, the muscles between your eyebrows flex, eventually causing residual wrinkles that never completely disappear even when you are not making the motion that created the crease. These lines are otherwise known as glabellar lines, or 11’s, referring to the number they imitate. They are very common and can start to appear at any age. Luckily, if you are between the ages of 18 and 65, there is an easy treatment to reduce or eliminate their appearance. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. P. Alexander Ataii and the Laser Clinique crew, are among the very best for BOTOX in San Diego.

Cost of BOTOX in San Diego
The cost of Botox is based on the number of "units" or vials required for the intended treatment area and outcome, and in that sense, it can be less costly than getting one's nails done, or one's shoe's shined. Based on the intended treatment location and extent of treatment schedule, the ‘typical cost’ ranges from roughly a few hundred dollars to $900.

BOTOX Treatment for a full jawline
A jaw that is too full or square can detract from the feminine facial appearance. A square jawline is more common among men, and generally considered a masculine characteristic, while the feminine jawline tends to curve inward to the chin.
In some people, the lower face becomes heavier as they grow older. One reason this occurs is that the angle of the jaw has become squarer and fuller. This can happen when the masseter muscles – the muscles used for chewing and closing the mouth – become enlarged because of genetic predisposition or from grinding or clenching the teeth.
Our San Diego BOTOX injections are an effective way to safely reduce the masseter muscles. Because BOTOX weakens the muscles, they become smaller over time. Weakening these muscles can also break the teeth grinding habit which causes them to become enlarged. BOTOX injections in the masseter muscles on both sides of the face can significantly reduce jaw muscle mass, for a more shapely and feminine lower face.
BOTOX Treatments: When Should You Start?
The effects of aging on facial skin appear at various times, based upon genetics, ethnicity, and environmental factors such as wind, cold weather, and sun exposure. As a general rule, if you begin to see lines and wrinkles that are visible when your facial muscles are relaxed, it is probably time to start BOTOX treatments. For some, this may be as early as the mid-20s, while for others, the lines and wrinkles become evident in the mid to late 30s.
BOTOX Treatments as a Preventative Measure
Women typically want to keep the facial skin firm, supple, and free from wrinkles, creases, and lines for as long as they can. BOTOX treatments are becoming more popular with younger patients who have treatments as a preventative measure to maintain unlined, youthful facial skin for longer. BOTOX treatments work to inhibit the motion of the underlying muscles that produce the constant facial contractions, such as squinting, frowning, or creasing the brow while concentrating.
Warding off Wrinkles, Creases, and Lines with BOTOX
Once the muscle motions are inhibited with BOTOX, the skin no longer creases, and can remain smooth and unlined for far longer. Women as young as twenty-five are choosing BOTOX treatments to prevent the development of lines and wrinkles. Those who have had extensive sun exposure, such as skiers, boaters, or swimmers, will be more likely to develop wrinkles, lines, and sagging skin earlier in life, and may be appropriate candidates for treatments in their mid-twenties.
The Decision to Start BOTOX Treatments is Based on Skin Quality
Most people start seeing the signs of facial aging in the mid-30s to the mid-40s. Women with fair skin should consider starting treatments between the ages of 30 and 40. Those with darker skin tones may not see the development of lines and wrinkles until the mid-40s, but each person is different in skin quality and lifestyle, so this decision should be made after an evaluation of your facial skin condition. Most people will see a significant improvement by starting BOTOX treatments in their 30s.
Injection Skills Matter with BOTOX
Many types of spas offer BOTOX treatments, but the skills with which the product is injected could not be more important in the results. You want to look refreshed, natural, and youthful, rather than being left with a frozen or uneven result. We urge you to connect with our professional team at Laser Cliniqúe in San Diego to have your facial skin quality evaluated, and talk with us about starting your BOTOX treatments.
BOTOX Treatment for Migraines
Patients with chronic migraines may also benefit from BOTOX injections. Each treatment involves 31 injections with tiny needles in the shallow muscles of 7 key areas of the head and neck. This treatment can ward off migraines and headaches before they begin.
BOTOX FAQ'sWhat is BOTOX made of? How does BOTOX work? Is BOTOX a wrinkle filler? Will BOTOX results show right away? How often do I need BOTOX injections?
What is BOTOX made of?
BOTOX is a prescription drug called OnabotulinumtoxinA. It is a neurotoxin produced by the bacteria strain of Clostridium botulinum. It is FDA approved for the cosmetic treatment of wrinkles and lines and is completely safe.
How does BOTOX work?
BOTOX is a neurotoxin that, when injected into muscles, relaxes them from motion for a period of time. When used cosmetically to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, it does so by temporarily blocking the nerve activity in the muscles surrounding the wrinkle, preventing the muscle from forming the motion that created the wrinkle or crease. The result is a smoother, wrinkle-free skin surface.
Is BOTOX a wrinkle filler?
No. BOTOX only prevents the muscles from forming the wrinkle in the skin. Facial fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane are a different type of injection in which an injectable gel is gently injected inside the wrinkle area, filling in the wrinkle by plumping up the skin and making the wrinkle disappear. BOTOX and facial fillers work together; the filler fills in the wrinkle while the BOTOX keeps the wrinkle from reforming.
Will BOTOX results show right away?
No. Patients that receive BOTOX injections start noticing a difference in their facial muscles about two to seven days after the injections. Full effect of the BOTOX injection can take up to two weeks.
How often do I need BOTOX injections?
Typically, when you begin BOTOX injections at our San Diego medical spa, you will need to repeat the process every three to four months. Patients report that with repeated injections they can go longer in between treatments. Some patients have their BOTOX injections once per year because they have been getting this highly effective wrinkle treatment on a regular basis.
