As part of a vaginal rejuvenation procedure, some women prefer to lighten and brighten the skin in the bikini area, allowing it to more cohesively integrate with the surrounding skin tissue. Skin in the vaginal area naturally acquires a darker tone due to routine day-to-day activities such as walking, exercise, and sexual intercourse.

Many patients enjoy the natural look just fine, while some consider that the skin tone being more even and uniform adds to one’s beauty and intimate appeal. For these patients, we offer a process of vaginal lightening to help them reach their ideals.

What causes the vaginal area to darken?

Skin in the vaginal area darkens over time due to routine activities including wearing tight clothing, walking, jogging, exercising, and having sexual intercourse. There is nothing unnatural or alarming about the skin tissue in this intimate area darkening over time and the vaginal lightening procedure is a self-chosen routine that can help reduce the darker tones in order to create a lighter complexion that better integrates with the surrounding skin.

Pregnancy, hyperhidrosis, and hormonal fluctuations can also cause the area to darken.

How is vaginal lightening done?

At Laser Cliniqúe, we have perfected a safe and simple procedure that is performed by our female nurses. The procedure involves a combination of a series of MedLite® Laser treatments along with the topical application of prescription skin lighteners.

Laser Cliniqúe’s Vaginal Lightening procedure

Laser Cliniqúe combines two treatments into one procedure in order to provide our patients with the best possible results.

  • MedLite® Laser: We use the Cynosure MedLight® laser in the first part of treatment to help address pigmentation concerns and rejuvenate the skin. Topical anesthetics can be applied to further increase patient comfort and the treatment has no downtime or recovery period. Depending on how significant the pigmentation is, two to three treatments may be required.
  • Topical Skin Lighteners: Following laser treatments, skin lighteners are applied topically and left on usually for two hours. These lighteners typically include Hydroquinone and Retinol and they work to lighten and brighten the skin’s overall appearance.

What does vaginal lightening do?

Vaginal lightening modifies the appearance of the external female genitilia. Despite its name, it doesn’t affect or address the internal vaginal canal but treats the intimate bikini area that includes the mons pubis, labia majora, labia minora, and perineum. The procedure simply and safely lightens the external skin tissue in this area in order to provide the patient with a more even skin tone that is free of unwanted hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and skin tone anomalies.

The treatment leaves these intimate areas with a lighter, brighter, and more even color tone that many patients find more attractive and confidence-building.

Is vaginal lightening safe?

The skin in the vaginal area is more sensitive than skin elsewhere on your body and there are certainly at-home and other treatments that are neither safe nor advised. However, Laser Cliniqúe and other med spas have developed vaginal lightening treatments that account for the delicate nature of the tissue in the treatment area. Done properly, vaginal lightening can be very safe but it’s certainly advised that you see an experienced professional for the treatment. Our female nurses have extensive training and experience with vaginal lightening and routinely produce great results with the treatment.

Recovery

Vaginal lightening is a lightweight, non-invasive treatment that requires no downtime or recovery period. The area may be mildly uncomfortable after treatment but should return to feeling perfectly normal on its own within 24 hours.
