What is Rhinoplasty and Why it is Now Rhino-popular?
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is just the fancy medical name for your basic “nose job.” Surgical reconstruction or re-shaping of the nose has been around for decades. However, until recently, the procedure involved extensive surgery that included scalpels and a long recovery. Today, however, things are much different. Traditional rhinoplasty is much less intensive of a procedure with a faster recovery time. Advances in medical science have made it a safer procedure, too, since it involves less cutting. It remains just as popular today as it was when it was first introduced, since people who have noses that are too long, have a large hump in the middle, or are too bulbous are always looking to have their appearance improved through rhinoplasty.
Advances in Modern Rhinoplasty
In addition to making the surgical procedure less invasive, there is a new, non-surgical rhinoplasty that doesn’t require any cutting, or even a plastic surgeon, at all. This procedure is very popular among people who want a new nose shape, but who do not want to undergo surgery. This procedure involves the use of medical-grade fillers that are injected under the skin of the nose. A variety of fillers can be used. The most common ones are restylane, juvederm and radiesse. These substances are based on hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite, which is a safe substance that is found naturally in the body, particularly in the soft tissues. This is a big improvement over earlier attempts at fillers such as silicone and paraffin wax, which resulted in bad complications after the procedure was complete. This is because those substances are not naturally found in the body. Modern techniques are much more safe.
How Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Works
In non-surgical rhinoplasty, the injectables are used to fill in sagging areas on the nose, to smooth over bumps on the bridge of the nose, and to lift the tip of the nose. It changes and augments the appearance of the nose, but it cannot make it shorter, or correct structural problems. These things would still require traditional rhinoplasty.
Why Choose Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?
Unless you need nose reconstruction, the non-surgical “nose job” has a number of benefits over the traditional plastic surgery. These benefits include:
• No need for general anesthesia
• Very little pain during and after the procedure
• Minimal bruising and redness immediately after the procedure
• No downtime–you can get back to your normal activities immediately after your injections
• It costs significantly less than traditional plastic surgery to the nose
