Getting Botox in San Diego: Your Shot at Looking and Feeling Good
Are the wrinkles on your face a source of sadness or disappointment for your looks? Are the fine lines around your eyes or forehead actually making your face look angry or sad? You might want to consider a San Diego Botox treatment to even out your disfiguring facial wrinkles, so you can look more radiantly beautiful and feel much happier with your appearance.
Surprisingly, Botox may even help turn your mood around, even if you have been diagnosed with major depression. Harper’s Bazaar writer Liz Krieger discusses a recent study by the Georgetown School of Psychiatry, which found that the injectable may be effective in treating clinical depression. This research reinforces the findings of previous studies (e.g. one from the University of Texas and another from Switzerland’s Psychiatric Hospital of the University of Basel):
Of the 74 people in the study—all of whom had been diagnosed with major depression—half were given Botox and the other half were given saline placebo injections in the “frown” muscles between their eyebrows. Six weeks later, 52 percent of patients who’d been injected with Botox felt significantly better, compared with just 15 percent of patients who didn’t get the real stuff. In fact, the scores of the Botox recipients on a depression-rating scale were down almost 50 percent, compared with 21 percent for the group who could still scowl. Surprisingly, even when study participants were able to discover which type of shot they had received—and only about half could tell—it had no bearing on whether or not they felt better. In short, if you can’t frown, you can’t feel down.
Botox, a neurotoxin administered in small doses, works by immobilizing facial muscles or blocking nerves to relax the facial structures for months. When the injectable is administered on muscles that control your frowning movements, the result is enhanced further. You have no choice but to have a neutral face or smile, and studies suggest that merely smiling more often reinforces positive emotions.
Receiving the right doses at the right intervals is the key to enjoying the benefits of this injectable drug, which is the favorite non-surgical cosmetic enhancement of thousands of Americans. A reliable cosmetic surgeon like P. Alexander Ataii M.D. of Laser Clinique can discuss your options on Botox treatments and its dermal filler alternatives, such as Belotero in San Diego. Try it, and see the joys it can bring to your face and emotions.
